Description provided by the architects.
Bizarrely, the project started with the idea of creating room for a huge elephant sculpture on a roof! The elephant has not arrived, but in the meantime the green roof provides a lush view from the main house and deck.
This small studio creates a work space for a professional couple and their kids, while an adjacent terrace provides a car space and outdoor entertainment area adjacent to a new deck. A curved concrete roof, brick wall and custom steel window give the building a surprising softness and provides a potential backdrop for an animal sculpture collection!
Raw, robust materials including recycled brick, concrete and timber were deliberately chosen in contrast to the weatherboard cottage and reflect the vernacular of the adjacent laneway.
