The architectural studio heri&salli from Vienna was engaged by the Vienna Museum of Technology to work out different kinds of ideas regarding future possibilities to construct cable cars. Hence, a series of 17 hand‐drawings, retaining different ideas were created. Each of these 17 drawings was done with a pencil on paper with the dimensions 100/70cm.
They interpret the cable car not only as an idealised connecting element between two places but on the one hand as a spatial benefit for its environment. This benefit can be reached with the dissolution of the defined start and goal. On the other hand, maybe they can turn into the content and carrier of the intermediate area of an urban surrounding. The place of the cable car is not anymore a place but the possibility of a stay in the landscape.
Then again, the formulation treats the question how far the cable car itself can be seen under a different light. Maybe it is reduced to its necessity, so that the interior space is seen as amplified exterior space. Alternatively, it can be interpreted as spatial benefit. The stay in the cable car is no longer temporary but stationary. Benefit space as attractive living space in the urban context.
Finally, six selected works can be visited from June 2016 onwards in the Vienna Museum of Technology. They show and summarise our formulated possibilities of visions of cable cars.
