SAMESAME is a collection of reformed glass objects, created by Cornelius Réer in his glass manufacture and produced from commercially available glass bottles. Those industrially produced bottles are being revalued both functionally and esthetically by means of traditional craftsmanship. Thus, the distinctive features of the industrially produced bottles are being preserved while their esthetics become contradictory: A high-value individual item originates from a standardized mass product.

SAMESAME is an attempt to show a new creative way to alternative product and production thinking. The often times misinterpreted term “sustainability” by its actual meaning provides the basis of this project. But first of all it’s a tribute to an increasingly forgotten trade.

No. 02 emerged from the typical German water bottle called "Brunnenflasche" or "Perlenflasche".

About the Designers:

Cornelius Réer - Glass maker
Cornelius Réer was born in Coburg in 1961. After his apprenticeship as a glass maker he worked for
several workshops including one in Sweden. He started his own business after one year of studies at International Glass Center Brierley Hill in the UK. He has been running his own glass workshops in Fürth
from 2004 to 2008 and in Nürnberg since.
The most characteristic aspects of Cornelius Réer‘s design language are subtile coloring, functionality
and distinctive shaping. This makes him perhaps one of the most innovative glass makers in Germany.

Laura Jungmann - Dipl. Designer
Laura Jungmann studied Product Design at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe and University of Istanbul. She has been free-lancing since 2013 and shares a design studio with other Karlsruhe based designers. With her diploma thesis „Same same. But different“ she tried to define her own way of „sensible“ work in collaboration with different regional craftsmen and craftswomen. Ever since, she has been focusing on regional, ecological and socially responsible work.
