Kitchens are oftentimes the heart of a home. This is because even though a lot of families still choose to sit and eat all together at the dining room table, or at least on the couch in front of the TV, the kitchen is where team work comes into play. It’s also where couples get together to prepare their joint favorite meal together and where children learn how to cook (or make a mess) from their parents. So all in all, a kitchen may not look like much at first, but it’s amazing how many people can be brought together in that space. Because of this, most people want their kitchen to look and feel a certain way, a way that often times isn’t already in place when a house is purchased. This means it’s time for a kitchen upgrade with some new renovations. Here’s how to design your kitchen the right way.

Completing Your Kitchen Renovation the Right Way

Open up your kitchen, don’t close it in

Generally when a person decides to remodel their kitchen, they decide to open it up, not close it in. This is because a more open kitchen not only looks better and is more appealing to future home buyers, but it allows for more open communication to others in the house. A more open kitchen tends to also mean more space within the kitchen as well, which is always a good thing, especially if you are a part of a large family.

Create lots of counter space

Not only is counter space great for meal prep, but it also allows you to house more appliances that are used on a daily basis. This then means you won’t be spending nearly as much time combing through your drawers to find the correct piece of equipment needed to make your famous pasta.

Add bright lighting

Always a good idea, bright lighting not only allows you to see what you’re doing better, which is essential when diving into your meal prep for the night, but it allows for a cleaner, brighter looking kitchen. This in turn helps to make the space appear more inviting and welcoming, which is a great idea if you’re constantly hosting parities and the like. Just remember, when you have bright lighting, stains and dirt spots are easier to see and find, meaning that you want to make sure that you completely clean your kitchen on a regular basis.

Add a large window

Going hand in hand with the addition of bright lighting, large windows not only help to make a space seem larger than it really is, but allows for a lot of natural light to flow into the kitchen. In order to complete this design plus however, you’ll want to make sure that your window looks out onto a pruned garden or clean driveway.

If you follow some of the design tips listed above, you’ll find that you can still play around with your kitchen ideas while creating a space that’s not only pleasing to you and your family, but friends and future home buyers.
