Össur develops and produces orthopaedic aids, including prosthetic solutions, to improve people’s mobility. At the centre of the design for the new head office and warehouse of Össur Europe in Eindhoven are a lounge and restaurant, which are connected via an atrium to an open-plan workspace.

Össur Europe is located at the Goods Distribution Centre (GDC) in Eindhoven, at a prime location on the ring road A2. Out of the warehouse, products are distributed across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Brazil. Unlike the other distribution centres in this area, the building is directed outward. The transparent facade, a grid of masonry and concrete, reflects Össur’s open company culture, which focuses on people. The coarse grain of the masonry and the board-formed concrete have a natural quality and accentuate this human aspect.

Immediately upon entering you find yourself in a lounge and restaurant, a meeting place where customers, guests of the Össur Academy, and employees receive a warm welcome. One may have lunch there, meet, or even work. A spacious atrium connects the lounge to all sections of the building, whereby contact is made with the warehouse through large glass walls.

Around the atrium one finds the Össur Academy, an open-plan office with sit-stand workspaces, quiet workspaces, and meeting rooms. The views of the green surroundings form a backdrop to the spaces and become part of the the interior. The boardroom ‘Reykjavik’ protrudes into the atrium from a moss-covered wall, reminiscent of Össur’s Icelandic roots.
